Antigua: Businessman threatens to shoot casino worker
A businessman has been taken into police custody after reportedly threatening the life of a Casino employee. The man is said to have accused her of cheating, after he apparently lost a considerable sum of money at the gambling table.
The businessman, said to be in his mid 50’s, was taken into custody early yesterday morning.
The man was alleged to have said that he had the feeling to take out his gun and shoot the woman because she cheated him. Reports are that his outburst frightened her and she called for the intervention of the police. Fearing for her life she reported the matter to two plain-clothes police officers who were providing private service to the casino.
A source estimated the man might have run up losses of between $3,000 -$5,000.
Eyewitnesses to the event said the man’s conduct was disorderly. It reached to the point where the officers were forced to remove him from the casino, disarmed him, and took him to the St. John’s Police Station.
But the Antigua Sun has learned that within minutes of his detention, the man was released from custody.
This has angered the officers as well as patrons of the casino; some of whom it has been reported are accusing the Police of behaving in a high handed manner by showing favouritism to certain people.
