Antigua: Former casino workers receive over $.5 million

Some 30 former employees of Kings Casino have received severance payment totaling over $500,000.

The Antigua & Barbuda Workers Union, bargaining agents for the dismissed employees facilitated the payout at its headquarters Friday.

Industrial relations officer of the A&BWU Senator Chester Hughes explained that the severance for the former employees of the casino dates back to 1995.

“The money was for an unfair dismissal which took place after Hurricane Luis when the casino got a bit of damage and the company terminated the services of all the employees unfairly.

“A picket took place in front of the casino at which time the riot squad came down there while the employees with only placards protested peacefully outside.
